SkillsGermany e.V. is an initiative founded by the Print Media Academy and 15 other German companies in order to bring together all national and international skills competitions under one overall concept and to provide a stronger foundation for this in Germany.
The initiative SkillsGermany will strive to ensure that the German vocational education system will continue to be represented on the international stage. The international platform, on which the professional skills of trainees worldwide can be compared, standards can be set and conclusions can be drawn is WorldSkills.
Securing young talent is at the heart of all activities. Skills competitions motivate and drive the participants to maximum performance. The national skills competitions want to show young people early on the opportunities that are open to them. They also want to whet their appetite for technology and encourage high achievement during their education.
SkillsGermany wants to contribute to a rapid start to further preparations for the national skills competitions that will also be the knockout competition in the run-up to WorldSkills 2007 in Japan. The goal of the German team is to perform even better than in Helsinki. Moreover, SkillsGermany wants to bring the media and world event WorldSkills back to Germany after 30 years and has submitted at least one bid for 2013.
International Platform WorldSkills
The WorldSkills competition takes place every other year, the last one was held in Helsinki in May 2005. Around 800 young people from 40 countries had the opportunity to show their professional competences in 34 official competitions and five demonstration categories in the fields of technology, industry, crafts and services to 120,000 visitors in the course of the four-day event. The German trainees were the third best of all participating countries. The silver medals in the mechatronics and printing categories went to Germany - which just goes to show that the initiative is on the right track.
